Time has absolutely flown and we are now into the second month of the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Festival. Throughout May and June, the Festival showcases the epicurean pleasures of this iconic food and wine destination and offers the perfect journey of discovery through the stunning region. With so many exciting activities on offer, we’ve curated our guide to some of the best experiences this month to truly enrich your time in the Hunter Valley.
Whet Your Appetite with a Wild Food Challenge – 17th and 18th June 2017
Cannot remember the last time you had wild boar, hare or crocodile? Take your tastebuds for a walk on the wild side with the Wild Food Challenge. Held at selected restaurants (including our very own Redsalt Restaurant), the challenge will see the best chefs in the region serve up dishes using ‘wild’ ingredients from certified suppliers.
Redsalt Restaurant’s Wild Menu:
- Entrée – Rabbit and Wild Boar Bacon Ravioli with Macadamia Nuts and Pumpkin
- Main – Roast Wood Duck Breast, Braised Cabbage, Carrot Puree with Gloria’s Wild Thyme Jus
- Dessert – Lemon Myrtle Panacotta with Finger Lime Syrup

Wander into the Hunter Valley Wine Festival – 24th June 2017
Have you always wanted to sample the very best vintages in the Hunter Valley? Whether you are a wine connoisseur or a budding enthusiast, the Hunter Valley Wine Festival is an unmissable event. This event is once again held on our picturesque grounds where we will play host to a myriad of food, beer and wine stalls. Don’t forget to bring the kids! The Festival is family friendly and will have plenty of activities to keep your children busy, including a train, jumping castle, face painting and our very own carousel.
Partake in a Pie & Wine Pairing – May and June 2017
Fancy a fancy pie? Local Lovedale chefs and winemakers have teamed up throughout the region to produce the perfect match between a pie and a regionally produced wine. Enjoy every manner of sweet and savoury pies alongside a Moscato, Shiraz or Semillon. Lovedale Bar will be serving a shin of beef pie, mashed potatoes and green beans paired with our award winning Lovedale lager.
Get Hungry for Heroes of the Hunter – May and June 2017
Our Heroes of the Hunter menu is back for the second consecutive year. Feast on a five course degustation specially designed to showcase the finest local produce. Each dish is also perfectly matched to our favourite award-winning wines from the region. Hear from our Executive Chef, James Ashton, regarding his philosophy and inspiration behind devising this menu. To make the most of your heroes’ experience, book an overnight accommodation stay with us and roll right into bed after your meal.
Feel inspired ‘By the Fireside’
Warm up and get an education ‘By the Fireside’ this month at Hunter Valley Resort. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear the stories and sample the latest releases from some of the Hunter Valley’s finest Winemakers, all while enjoying an indulgent four course meal matched with the winemaker’s best. Each week features a different guest winemaker.

Take a Cheeky Trip to the Cheese Lovers Festival – 17th and 18th June 2017
Feel like having a gouda time? The Cheese Lovers Festival is back and feta than ever, bringing with them an impressive variety of cheeses and accompaniments. For two days, sample a selection of world-class produce (all Australian-made), attend cheese, beer and wine workshops all against the backdrop of fun live music and kids entertainment.
