If you have a young family in tow, head to the Hunter Valley Gardens Village as they have plenty of lush grounds for the kids to burn themselves out as well as a playground. Adults can retreat to a shady tree with a good book or share a locally sourced selection of cheese and wines.

If you want to keep to the vicinity of one of the many stunning wineries (we don’t blame you) there are so many picturesque grounds that make for an ‘insta-worthy’ picnic experience. Take a safari around the globe and meet some of the exotic characters residing at the Hunter Valley Wildlife Park from lemurs, meerkats, leopards, cheetahs, reptiles, monkeys, lions and capybaras.
