5 Things to Keep In Mind When Planning Your Post Isolation Holiday

The last few months have been tough for Australia and the world. Devastating bushfires? Check. Global Pandemic? Check. Juggling the stresses of working, teaching, cooking and entertaining the family all whilst being stuck inside the same 4 walls? Check, check, check and check.

If you’re anything like us staying at home was once your idea of a great time, but the shine has well and truly worn off and we’re ready to get out and explore our own wonderful backyard.

But what does travel look like in a post COVID-19 world?

Like many of our beloved routines, there have been a number of changes to planning the perfect holiday. Here’s our list of the top five things to keep in mind when planning your next (safe) travel adventure.

Wide open Hunter Valley

1. Space

After so much time in your house or apartment, a stunning view is the perfect way to chase away those isolation blues. Choose a location that is as beautiful to look at as it is to explore. For now, start with a wide open location with plenty to see and do on your own, or within your own small group.

But remember, leaving your home behind doesn’t mean leaving behind social distancing. By now you’ve perfected the art of the 1.5m gap, so heading to an over crowded tourist spot isn’t a great idea. Look for secluded or free standing accommodation such as a private apartment or villa. If you’ve got a large family or are planning a longer stay why not invest in your own private house and enjoy all the comforts of home with the thrill of new adventures.

2. Safety

Whilst now safe to plan and book your post isolation getaway in New South Wales, it’s important to ensure your accommodation provider is taking your health and safety seriously.

Research and investigate their Covid-19 response procedures and look for additional cleaning measures as well as the implementation of social distancing and contactless services.

It’s also a great idea to check whether they offer any flexibility when booking in case you need to change your itinerary.

3. Climate

Do you pack swimsuits or snow jackets? Although NSW is headed into winter, there are still plenty of places to escape or enjoy the cooler weather. Whatever your preference, a quick check of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology website can help point you in the right direction.

Whatever your decision, it’s always a good idea to choose a destination with plenty of wet weather options. From bush walks to road trips to joy flights and tours, plan ahead to make sure you can make the most of your trip.

Delicious In Room Dining

4. Facilities

So you’ve found the perfect post iso travel destination, it’s now time to start thinking logistics. Where will you eat and play?

If you’re excited by the prospect of enjoying a delicious meal you didn’t have to prepare yourself, look for a location that offers delicious onsite dining, either from the comfort of your own private room or from a clean and safe dining facility. If you’ve become quite the Masterchef yourself, look for accommodation that includes your own kitchen facilities or enjoy the best of both worlds.

For those who are tired of the indoors, be sure to keep an eye out for plenty of outdoor activities such as pools, golf courses, sporting courts and equipment, and hiking trails.

5. Local Attractions

When planning your post iso escape, the last thing you want is to be all dressed up with nowhere to go. Research your destination’s local tourist attractions before you book and make sure there have been no changes to their services or opening hours which might affect your visit.

If you’re not quite sure where to start, reach out to your hotel or accommodation for some great suggestions, or browse the website of the local Tourism Association or Visitors Information Center.
